Dr. Eunice Bawafaa

Nurse. Researcher. Educator. Advocate.

Dr. Eunice Bawafaa is a registered nurse, researcher, educator, and advocate with extensive experience working in materially under-resourced communities in Ghana and Canada. Her career sits at the intersection of women's health, mental health equity, trauma-informed care, and community empowerment.

As a healthcare professional, Dr. Bawafaa has worked closely with pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS and their partners, providing counselling, psychosocial support, and health education aimed at improving health outcomes and strengthening patient empowerment. These experiences have deepened her commitment to advancing equitable, compassionate, and culturally responsive healthcare for marginalized populations.

Dr. Bawafaa is deeply passionate about mental health and psychosocial wellness, particularly among vulnerable women, college and university students, youth, newcomers, and individuals experiencing crisis, trauma, abuse, homelessness, and social isolation. Through community outreach and supportive housing initiatives, including the Emergency Safe House program, she advocates for holistic care approaches that integrate emotional, psychological, social, and physical wellbeing. She strongly believes that healing and recovery are best achieved through dignity, empowerment, culturally safe care, and supportive community environments.

Her research and advocacy interests focus on women's health, mental health equity, trauma-informed nursing care, nurse and patient empowerment, as well as social justice in healthcare delivery and nursing education. She continues to champion healthcare practices that promote inclusion, resilience, mental wellness, and long-term community healing both locally and globally through her leadership at Compassionate Nest.
